It started several years ago when Lauren was coaching her
daughter's recreational league cheer squad. While driving to a
practice, her ears perked up while listening to the conversation in
the back seat.
As the car drove by a field where trees were being knocked down
for a large department store, the girls started complaining: "Don't
they understand that they are contributing to deforestation...."
She thought, "WOW- that's interesting! I was thinking about boys at
that age. I certainly wasn't thinking about things like deforestation."
Conversations like this for two years led to pages of notes and
observations in Lauren's idea book. Somewhere in the midst of
this, she coined the phrase Pyro-generation because she noticed
that these kids could be easily fired up for a cause- kind of like the
hippie generation EXCEPT they have technology to their advantage
AND they know how to use it!
She then started on a quest to find a research company that could
study kids in the appropriate age range. It took a year and led to a
qualitative research panel being conducted on the internet in 2007.
The results were so promising that she knew she was 'on to
something.' And, that's where we are today... looking for someone
to travel the rest of this journey as a sponsor/partner for the next
